SUBWAY® donates $2,500 to Eucon International College
GUALO RAI-- SUBWAY® Investments Corp. has donated $2,500 to Eucon International College through the government’s Education Tax Credit program “to help the educational institution flourish despite these lean economic times,” Marcos Fong, SUBWAY® Investments Corp. managing director, said.
The ETC program allows businesses to donate up to $5,000 of their business gross receipts a year to qualified educational institutions of their choice, instead of paying the amount in the form of tax to the government.
SUBWAY® had, in the past, availed of the ETC program and made similar donations to several schools, including Marianas Baptist Academy and Saipan Community School, according to Fong.
“The students and faculty of Eucon International College are regular supporters of SUBWAY® and the donation to the school allows us to do our part to support the community,” Fong said. He added, “SUBWAY® is proud to support the educational institutions in the CNMI and we try to give back whenever the opportunity permits. It is more important now than ever, considering these tough economic times, for the business community to work together to preserve the future well-being of the CNMI through our youth.”
Judy Wei, Eucon International College vice president, said she is very happy with the donation. “We are very thankful to SUBWAY® for this donation. We can use this. We have a lot of students who are under scholarship and we can use this donation for their benefit,” Wei said.
The donation was made on Aug. 24.
Eucon International College opened in 1998. According to Wei, the school has approximately 160 students in kindergarten, grade school, junior high school, high school, and college. Wei said Eucon International College, which is located along Middle Road in Gualo Rai, has a teaching staff of 20 people. She said that college courses offered include degrees in education, and counseling. |
